Grocery shopping can be so frustrating when it comes to trying to avoid all of the foods with ingredients that contain MSG. I swear MSG is in a majority of processed foods to the point that I am afraid to buy anything already made. Carrageenan is one major ingredient that contains MSG and is alarmingly added to numerous dairy and dairy-free products. Try finding an almond milk that doesn’t have this additive. I began to compile a list of brands that don’t contain carrageenan and came across a great list that is already put together and lists the foods that do and don’t have this additive…
If you search “carrageenan” you will find that many companies claim that it is simply a sea veggie so there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. However if you dig deeper into research, including my books on excitotoxins and MSG you will find that this is one ingredient that is allowed to have MSG without putting it on the label. In fact there are tons and tons of additives that are hiding MSG
Another thing to keep in mind is that even if carrageenan didn’t have any traces of MSG it still can cause certain health issues in most people. Scientists have found over the decades that the consumption of carrageenan can cause intestinal and bowel inflammation. Part of the reason there has been such a rise in digestive disorders is from additives such as carrageenan which are added to almost every processed food in some form. Plus most consumers who have gluten-intolerance will have similar digestive symptoms after eating a food that has carrageenan it it.
Finally, here is the list of foods, mostly dairy and meat and non-dairy alternatives, that do and don’t contain carrageenan. Pretty much every dairy-free alternative like almond, coconut and soy milk from Trader Joe’s is out!.. http://www.cornucopia.org/shopping-guide-to-avoiding-organic-foods-with-carrageenan/
