Save Money and Your Hair Health with a Natural Recipe
I read an interesting article in Mother Earth News that I want to share and see if anyone has tried it. They provide a simple, natural and cost-effective recipe for making your own shampoo and conditioner. You need only a couple ingredients and from what I have researched it seems to work great for most people and it helps to restore their hair’s original health.
I don’t know about you but finding the perfect shampoo and conditioner has always been a battle for me. I might find a conditioner that I really like but it generally has a few chemicals that are not natural. Most of the 100% pure products rarely work on my hair – they always dry me out. Plus the other issue, as I have mentioned before, is that your skin is your largest organ and your body absorbs everything you use topically. This iswhy the philosophy that says, “Don’t put it on your skin if you would not eat”, is so true and important to understand. Most products that might seem natural are still made with ingredients that are not 100% natural and can become toxic when absorbed into the body. I believe that this is why people have such problems with their hair being to dry and flaky, too oily, limp, frizzy and unhealthy – we load our hair with chemicals so it is never truly healthy.
Here is the article and recipe to check out: http://www.motherearthnews.com/healthy-people-healthy-planet/natural-hair-care.aspx?utm_content=06.21.10+HE&utm_campaign=HE&utm_source=iPost&utm_medium=email
I am going to try following this for the next few weeks, using baking soda, apple cider vinegar and maybe a coconut oil leave-in treatment once a week and will let you know how it works. Keep in mind that it could take a couple of weeks for your hair to literally detox and find the right balance so your hair might be a bit oilier or dryer in the beginning but in the end it should be thicker, shinier and healthier. Anyone have any tips that they have tried?

I have been doing no-poo since mid june and I love it!! We have hard water so I use more baking soda and let it sit for a couple of minutes… it takes a few times to get the right amount of bs and vinegar for your hair but once you figure it out it’s awesome! It saves so much money, no bad chemicals, and my hair is fuller and soft.
oh and brush your hair before getting into the shower
I have been using tree nut soaps, 3/4 of tree nut soap, 1/4 of shampoo, and a few drops of tea tree oil or olive oil. One bottle of shampoo lasts me several years. I like the idea of Hillary’s because you only make it as you go. I would however add some drops from real lemon. Lemons are also great for bugs in the summer as they don’t like the scent of it. Again saving you money.
To use the rest of your lemon you can slice and use with pure water as a refreshing drink (no sugar), to clean your counters, sinks, etc.
Lemons are great!
Thank you for your recommendations, I will definitely try them, always up for something new!
