My Top 10 Healthy Traveling Tips
I hope you all had a great week. I apologize for not posting for the last 9 days but my family was on a five-day road trip and moved to a new home so it has been a bit busy and we had our internet hooked up only yesterday. What kept us going on our trip were our three bags of packed healthy quick foods/snacks, travel packs of green drinks, matcha, coconut water and more. Here is my list of great traveling products/foods…
We had a great time and our 2 year old did amazing sitting in the car for 5-7 hours each day. I have to admit that 5 days of driving would have been very difficult without our portable DVD player – this kept our son entertained and he never complained once. :) Plus he had yummy “baba’s” and snacks all day!
Here are my traveling recommendations, especially when you have kids:
- Amazing Grass Kidz Superfood blend – tasty and can be added to your kids bottle, sippy-cup or added to coconut water for the adults (packed with all the veggies, fruits and greens that kids most likely won’t get enough of when on the road.
- Traveling green superfood packets (single servings) – I used a variety (Green Magma Plus, Amazing Grass, Juvo Meal packets, and Nutiva Hemp Protein)
- Coconut water – added to our morning and afternoon green drinks. There are a variety of already packaged coconut waters, which are my least favorite because they have an interesting aftertaste, so I was amazed when I found an amazing tasting coconut water that comes in a small 9.5 ounce glass jar by the company “Taste Nirvana”. I first found it in a Whole Foods in Northern California and love it as a backup for when I run out of fresh coconuts. It has no aftertaste and tastes like it is fresh from the coconut!! Plus, it cost less than two dollars.
- Matcha green tea is a necessity for the energy factor – we added 1 tsp to our morning drink and then before leaving our hotel I would make for my husband and I a second drink for the afternoon with coconut water, water, Whole Foods brand vanilla stevia, 1 tsp matcha and ½ a packet of the hemp protein powder.
- Powdered Goat Milk & Bottle Recipe – Meyenberg makes great powdered goat milk that comes in a can and is perfect for on the road. Every morning I would make my son two 10 oz. bottles with ½ coconut water, water, 1 scoop of the powdered goat milk, ½ scoop of the Kidz Superfoods and a couple ounces of vanilla coconut milk kefir by So Delicious (this travels great in a cooler bag). That combo right there ensures that your kids will get the best balanced nutrition – put it in a sippy cup or shaker too for older kids.
- Dehydrated Foods – These are the most amazing traveling foods because they don’t have to be refrigerated and are loaded with nutrition (the perfect survival food). I made huge batches of my raw Italian veggie crackers, chips and meal cookies the week before we left and they were our breakfast and in between meal snacks. You can also buy dehydrated crackers, cookies, bread, snacks, etc from the health store.
- Great kid snacks: Nana’s gluten free bars (the berry vanilla is delicious and fruit-sweetened); Veggie Pirate’s Booty; popcorn (I air-popped three batches before we left and seasoned with coconut oil, Celtic Sea Salt and Nutritional Yeast); champagne grapes; sliced apples and fruit; peanut or almond butter spread between organic graham crackers; trail mix; veggie burgers (I made a couple dozen of my veggie burgers and they were perfect for lunch in the car seat, dehydrated cookies; natural lollipops (great for meltdowns); already made smoothies; baby carrots, crackers and humus, and muffins.
- Raw Bars – Amazing grass superfood chocolate bar, Green’s Plus chocolate bar with chia seeds and protein, Lara Bars, etc.
- Fat Burning Lemonade – I would put one heaping scoop in a large water bottle for the day for us to share with some stevia and ½ of a lemon squeezed into it. This is good for energy but I really like it for drinking a few ounces about an hour after a meal that was a bit heavier than I am used to when eating out.
- Avocados – A bag of ripe avocados can really save you when you are on the road and starving. They are satisfying, stabilize the blood sugar and are great for dipping. Each morning I would actually cut an avocado in half, sprinkle Celtic Sea Salt on top and eat with a spoon, yum!!

Glad you made it safely to your new home! I also moved and drove across the country in the middle of the summer—no easy feat, especially with a little one! These are great healthy snack foods. Our whole family is just gaga for Taste Nirvana Real Coconut Water. And So Delicious coconut milk kefir and yogurt are staples in our summer cooler, as well as their amazing coconut milk ice cream sandwiches!
Thanks, it feels good to be settled! Yes, the Nirvana coconut water is amazing and refreshing and as soon as we arrived we went to the closest Whole Foods to buy a box of my son’s favorite mint So Delicious Coconut Icecream sandwiches
They are very yummy indeed.
