Digestive Enzymes
I can’t imagine holiday meals without my enzymes! Keeping digestive enzymes with you during Thanks
Giving, Christmas and all of the inbetween parties can save your tummy and colon and pack on fewer “holiday” pounds! Of all “supplements” available in the market, digestive enzymes are one of the most essential and life-giving products one could take. We are very fortunate to have these products available to us.
Taking enzymes could be the difference between a shorter and unhealthy life and one that functions optimally and energetically. Digestive enzymes aid in digestion, assimilation, prevention of acid, indigestion and putrification. Enzymes are not only the active agents responsible for the digestion of food, but are the catalyst for every major function in the body.
Digestive enzymes properly break down the food we consume, allowing the nutrients to be absorbed and distributed throughout our blood stream. Without these enzymes, food would putrefy and rot in our intestines, producing excessive toxins and fat storage. Also the body would not be able to absorb all of the nutrients that were originally available in the food, thus creating mal-nourishment. Your entire nutrition strategy can fall short if there is a problem with mal-absorption or any nutrient deficiencies.
Keep in mind that raw foods naturally have enzymes (enzyems are lost with processing and cooking) so you don’t have to take enzymes with raw food unless you experience gas and bloating. The main benefit of taking enzymes with raw foods is to help the body absorb every nutrient possible from the food.
Digestive enzymes should always be taken with cooked (enzyme-less) foods and occasionaly taken with raw (enzyme-rich) foods if needed. An enzyme blend should specifically include: Protein enzymes (protease, bromelain, papain); Carbohydrate enzymes (amylase, alpha-galactosidase, maltase; Fat enzymes (lipase); fiber enzymes (cellulase); Dairy enzymes (lactase). Enzymes should ideally be taken before meals, but are still affective if taken during or after meals. Depending on need and requirements, I recommend1-2 capsules with each meal.
