Favorite Find: Bridget’s Chai
Years ago my husband and I found this delicious chai at a local coffee house when we were living in San Francisco. We didn’t know
where it came from and were sad to leave the delicious taste behind when we moved back down to LA. Six months later at PCGreens in Malibu, I met the owner of Bridget’s Chai who happened to be sampling her chai. I was in shock, it was the exact chai from San Francisco. I remembered the taste instantly and to this day my entire family is probably one of her biggest customers. Not only is it delicious in the morning, it possesses many health benefits and is a great morning cleanser.
I was never a finatical chai fan unti I had my first hot chai, unknown to me at the time that it was Bridget’s, in San Francisco. Since that time, about 6 years ago, I have always been willing to try a new brand of chai. I have rarely tasted a chai that I like as much as Bridget’s. Not only is it yummy, it is fresh brewed, rich of spicy herbs, and has little to no caffeine. What I don’t like about most chai’s is that they come from a syrupy mix or powder that is extremely sweet and loaded with regular sugar and caffeine.
Chai is an age old custom beverage from India that was actually created as a healing tonic. The combination of ginger, pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, etc., creates a powerful formula that boosts the immune system, cleanses the colon, aids in digestion, warms the body and much more. I actually drank it throughout my pregnancy for nautiousness and heart burn – I couldn’t get enough of chai. When I spoke with Bridget she said that many of her customers are pregnant women because the caffeine has been brewed out of the tea and the herbs are so soothing and energizing.
Amazing fact: My 19 month old son loves her chai. We call it “chai chai” in the morning and he always get his fare share of my mug. It is spicy and strong but he just thinks it is the best drink ever, next to Kombucha tea
Every morning we start with our large green drink combo (Vitamineral Greens, Amazing Meal, Maca & Matcha) and then about a half hour later I pull out a sauce pan and mix about 2/3 chai to 1/3 of my raw coconut milk. I wisk it on high for a couple of minutes and it is ready for drinking! It is also great in the evening for settling your tummy. If I ate a cooked meal that was a bit heavier than normal, I alternate between enzymes, BChai and Matcha green tea – depending on my mood
The only places I know to find it is PCGreens in Malibu and Rainbow Acres in Marina del Rey. She makes a half gallon that sells for about $14.00 and a full gallon for $24.00. I was also told that King’s Road Cafe in Los Angeles sells it.
