Why We Need Alkaline Water – Antioxidant
Alkaline water should range from 8.5 to 9.5. Drinking at least half you weight in ounces daily assists the body in rebalancing itself, creating the right
environment for health and regeneration. Part of the benefits the body receives from alkaline water is its ability to work as an antioxidant. Here is how it works…
There is a term related to alkaline water “ORP”, which means “Oxidation Reduction Potential”, which has antioxidant properties. You have probably heard of the term “Free Radicals”. This is the term referred to when an atom in the body looses an electron, becoming a very reactive atom. Not to get too scientific, but understand that free radicals that come in contact with cells can totally denature and destroy the cell. Thus, the body ages and is more prone to disease. Free radicals are generally related to “Oxidative” damage and antioxidants are the “Reducing agents” or soldiers in the body that try to minimize the oxidative harm.
All this to say that alkaline water is able to act as one of those antioxidant soldiers in the body. Here is how: According to “The Body Balance 2009 Spring Edition” ebook about Kangen alkaline water, “ORP measures the ability of a substance to pull contaminants away from healthy cells. A negative ORP pulls contaminants away, known as antioxidation.” Water either has a positive or negative ORP. Basically, the more negative the ORP number, the greater the antioxidant abilities. They compared alkaline water, which can be as low as the negative three hundreds, where regular water can be as high as the positive three hundreds. With a positive ORP measure, there is no ability to work as an antioxidant.
Fresh raw foods also have a negative ORP measure, while cooked and processed foods have a positive ORP number. However, the negative ORP number of raw foods is nowhere near as negative as alkaline water. It seems to me that no matter what you do with your diet, alkaline water is essential for all aspects of health. In my next blog I will tell you the benefits!
